Solitary Mabon Ritual

Items needed:

One tall Gold God candle
One tall Silver Goddess candle
Sage incense
cauldron
4 corner candles
Cup of water
Bowl of salt
Chalice of red wine or juice
athame and/or wand
Basket of apples
dark red, orange and brown colored decorative votive candles
________________________________

(Cast the circle and call the corners in you usual manner and then light the incense. Invoke the God and Goddess) -

INVOCATION OF THE GOD: (light the tall GOLD candle)
"I now do call upon the eternal God in the ancient way, as Lord of Day and bright, fiery Sun whose energy brings warmth and light to His consort our Earth Mother. Cone join me! Bring me Thy warmth and light as I celebrate the Autumn Equinox. Send Thy spirit forth so that I, your child, may feel your light within me -
As it is willed, so mote it be."

INVOCATION OF THE GODDESS: (light the tall SILVER candle)
"I now do call upon the eternal Goddess in the ancient way, as Earth Mother and Lady Crone who reigns as light declines. Come join me! Bring me your love and protection as I celebrate the Autumn Equinox. Send Thy spirit forth so that I, your child, may feel your life within me -
As it is willed, so mote it be."

_________________________________________

(Pick up the chalice of wine or juice and hold it upward toward the sky and say) -
"Blessed be this season of Mabon,
Time of the Second Harvest -
The harvest of fruit and wine,
Blessed be the Lady!"

(Place the chalice back on the altar and now pick up your athame or wand and say) -
"Today all things are in balance,
Both night and day and Goddess and God are equal
as are life and death -
Blessed be the Lord!"

(Place athame back on the altar and say)-
"But tonight darkness conquers the light,
taking us into the dark of the year,
It is a time to reflect upon those who have passed
and those who are yet to come."

(In honor of those who you wish to remember, you may recite the following poem) -
Mabon Lament

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond's glint on snow

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain
When you wake up in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft star that shines at night
*I am the ocean's calming waters,
Which carries Earth Mother's sons and daughters

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die
*And do not stand at my grave and mourn,
I am not there, I have been reborn

*Original author unknown; however, I have added some of my own verses for the purpose of this ritual.

(Pick up an apple, symbol of the Goddess, from the basket and hold it close to your heart, reflecting on the events passed and people whom you wish to remember at this time. When you are ready, say) -
"Tonight I mourn the loss of life and light,
But just as the apple which I hold in my hand gives both life and death,
So do our beloved deities -
Those who have passed shall return as surely as shall the light."

(Place the apple back into the basket to give back to the Earth later. Pick up the chalice once again and say)-
"Just as we have sorrow,
We also have joy -
For this is the time of the wine harvest!"

(Now, bless the chalice of wine by placing your athame inside it while saying) -
"I bless this wine of the harvest in the name of our Mother Earth and Father God."

(Take a drink from the chalice in toast of the Goddess and God. When finished, set aside a portion to give back to the Earth later)

"I am a child of deity,
I am part of the creative life force which moves the Universe;
I am part of all that is -
Though we are apart, we are ever together
For we are one in the spirit of the Goddess and God,
Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again -
Blessed be!"

(Close ritual thank the deities and open the circle - remembering to give back to the Earth)

Invocation of the Triple Goddess and God

This is an easy little invocation of the Triple Goddess and Triple God, and it is one that I use for various rituals and meditations. All you need is:

One white, one red and one black candle to honor the Triple Goddess of Maiden, Mother and Crone. In addition, you will also need one yellow, one green and one gold candle to represent the Triple God of Lord, Father and King.

Start by lighting the Goddess candles while repeating the following words:

(white) ~ "Blessed be the Maiden, innocent and fresh."
(red)    ~  "Blessed be the Mother, fertile and loving."
(black) ~ "Blessed be the Crone, powerful and wise!"

Then light the God candles and repeat as follows:

(yellow) ~ "Blessed be the Lord, gentle and kind."
(green)  ~ "Blessed be the Father, protective and warm."
(gold)   ~  "Blessed be the King, forever reborn!"

(You may, of course, wish to add your own names to fit your own tradition, etc. Just a suggestion, another good name to use in place of "King" is "Sage.")

Solitary Lughnasadh Ritual

Items needed:

One tall Gold God Candle
One tall Silver Goddess candle
Sandalwood incense
Cauldron
loaf of bread
Chalice of wine or juice
cup of water
bowl of salt
athame and/or wand
4 corner candles
sunflowers
orange, yellow and green decorative votive candles
_________________________________________

(Cast circle and call the corners in your usual manner and then light the incense. Invoke God and Goddess) -

INVOCATION OF THE GOD: (light the tall GOLD candle)
"I now do call upon the eternal God in the ancient way, as God of the Grain,. You whom I call Father, Lord, Lover and Consort to the Lady, but above all the vital half within that brings completeness. May I carry your light always within me. As it is willed, so mote it be."

INVOCATION OF THE GODDESS: (light the tall SILVER candle)
"I now do call upon the eternal Goddess in the ancient way, as Corn Mother. You whom I call Mother Earth, Lady, Lover and Consort to the Lord, but most of all the vital half of life within that brings completeness. May I feel your love always within me. As it is willed, so mote it be."
____________________________________________

Lugh is a Celtic Sun God and the word, "Lughnasadh" simply means, "the chase of Lugh." Lammas is a more Christianized version of this sabbat and its' translation is "loaf mass."

"Tonight I honor our deities in Their aspects as the Grain God and the Corn Mother,
Blessed be this season of Lughnasadh and the bounty of the First Harvest,
Fruit of the womb of the Mother -
Blessed be Mother Earth,
Blessed be Father God!"

(Place one hand on your heart and say) -
"I am grateful for so many things which our gracious Lord and Lady have bestowed upon me. Our Father has generously given us His light and protection at Midsummer so that our loving Mother could bless us with Her essence once again."

(The Symbolic Great Rite) -
Pick up your athame and slowly dip it into the chalice of wine or juice while repeating:

"Chalice to athame
As Goddess is to God,
Father is to Mother
As man is to woman -
Behold the sacred union of The One!"

(Pick up the loaf of bread and say):

"I will count my many blessings on this sabbat of bounty."

(Break off a piece of the bread and then recite all the many things that you are thankful for. When finished, take a drink from the chalice. Then place the items back on the altar while saying) -

"Blessed be the fruitful Mother,
Blessed be the God of the Harvest!"

(Set a piece of bread on a plate aside to give back to the Earth after ritual, then say) -

"I give this bounty of the land back to our Mother Earth and Her consort and ask that it be shared with the Faeries of the Fields and the animals of the woodland -
Offerings given in love return three-fold,
Blessed be this gift."

"I am a child of deity,
I am part of the creative life force which moves the Universe;
I am part of all that is.
Though we are apart, we are ever together -
For we are one in the spirit of the Goddess and God,
Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again -
Blessed be!"

(Close ritual, thank the deities and open the circle - remembering to give back to the Earth)

The Mad Arab: The Book of the Dead

The following poem was one which I had written a few years ago after I had read H.P. Lovecraft's, "The Necronomicon." It is merely a fictional story and nothing more! This is the first time I have ever published it. I hope you enjoy!

 The Mad Arab

In days of old, the story is said
of the testimony of Abl-Al Hazzred;
 The Three Seals of MASSHU
he claimed he possessed,
belonged to the prophets
or elder gods of rest

The seals were the symbols
he found brought him fear,
While sleeping one night;
unaware death was near
He saw priests in black robes
raise the seals from the ground;
While chanting, "Zi Azag!"
there was blood all around

These priests fed on death,
such as the souls slain in war
Now these were the likes
of nothing he'd ever seen before;
While running up a mountain
to escape these dark lords,
he fell to the ground;
Priests  still holding their swords

As he turned around
 to face what he'd feared,
Like ghosts in the night,
the priests disappeared!
All that remained
in the woods he could find,
were the robes which they wore
and a slim of some kind

He returned to the seals
which he'd found on the stone;
He realized at last
he was finally alone;
For the seals were the keys
which opened doors to the outside,
And once in these realms,
no one could hide

So on his death bed
he confessed what he knew,
of the rituals and summonings
of the dead he did view;
It's called the Necronomicon,
or Book of the Dead;
For it contains the testimony
of the mad man, Hazzred

Solitary Midsummer/Litha Ritual

Items needed:
One tall white God candle
One tall red Goddess candle
Mistletoe (should be placed on the altar in a place of honor)
Holly (should be placed on the altar, but just out of sight)
Sandalwood incense
cauldron
cup of water
bowl of salt
4 white corner candles
God's Eye
One large bowl of water
10 tea lights, unlit
Triple Goddess candles (one white, one red & one black)
Triple God candles (one green, one yellow & one gold)
Faerie Dust
Altar decorations: roses, lillies and daisies (optional)
(If you have a pet or familiar, you may give him/her a special Midsummer Blessing or perform a Protection Spell in this ritual)
_________________________________________________________

(Cast the circle and call the corners in your usual manner then light the incense. Invoke God & Goddess)

INVOCATION OF THE GOD: (while lighting the tall WHITE candle) -
"I now do call upon the eternal God in the ancient way - as gentle Father and loving consort to the
Lady. Send Thy spirit forth so that I, your child, may feel your light within. As it is willed, so mote
it be!"

INVOCATION OF THE GODDESS: (while lighting the tall RED candle) -
"I now do call upon the eternal Goddess in the ancient way - as Earth Mother and omnipresent consort to the Lord. Send Thy spirit forth so that I, your child, may feel your life within me. As it
is willed, so mote it be!"

"Blessed be this season of Midsummer,
The Young Sun rides at his peak in the skies as the Goddess gives birth to the Summer Solstice.
Today I celebrate the light, for tomorrow that light will wane -
Today I acknowledge the end of the waxing year and the beginning of the waning time."

(Take your athame or wand from the altar and raise it in front of you pointing upward while saying:

"Farewell to the waxing year,
Season of fertility and growth
Farewell to the season of Spring
and the time of planting -
Blessed be the Oak King!"

(Make the sign of the banishing pentagram with athame or wand and say:

"Welcome to the waning year,
Season of harvest and wisdom
Welcome to the bounty of autumn -
Blessed be the Holly King!"

(Make the sign of the invoking pentagram with athame or wand. Place it back on the altar and switch the mistletoe with the holly. The holly is the symbol of the Holly King who now reigns over the waning year).

Light the Triple Goddess candles:

While lighting the WHITE candle say -
"Blessed be the Maiden, innocent and fresh."

While lighting the RED candle say -
"Blessed be the Mother, fertile and loving."

While lighting the BLACK candle, say -
"Blessed be the Crone, powerful and wise."

Now, light the Triple God candles:

While lighting the GREEN candle say -
"Blessed be the Lord, gentle and kind."

While lighting the YELLOW candle say -
"Blessed be the Father, protective and warm."

While lighting the GOLD candle say -
"Blessed be the King, forever reborn -
Behold the Lord and Lady are One!"

(Pour the bowl of salt into the cup of water then hold it upward with both hands and say ) -
"O Blessed Lady, fill this vessel with your holy presence that I might rededicate myself to you. Great Mother of the Earth from whom all life was born and born again, I stand before you today to acknowledge you as the giver of life."

(Anoint yourself with the salted water - with your fingertips, anoint your feet, heart then finally your head. Repeat the following incantation) -

"Blessed Lady, innocent virgin, wise Crone and Great Mother, I present myself to you as your child, (CRAFT NAME), and ask that you accept my dedication to you. So mote it be."

(By the New Stone Age, about 8,000 years ago, stone circles like Stonehenge were used to mark the position of the sun and the Midsummer/Summer Solstice. The sun would rise over a heel stone and cast a long, phallic shadow into the heart of the circle, consummating the marriage of Heaven and Earth. Other circles mark the equinoxes and the cross-quarter festivals we know as Imbolg, Lughnasdh, Beltane and Samhain.)

"Today, I also wish to honor the Faeries of the Woodlands -
Faeries, Sprites and Nymphs, I bid you come join me in celebration of love and life!"

Light the tea lights and place in the large bowl of water (set outside after ritual if performed indoors). Now, take a pinch of the Faerie Dust - place in cauldron and burn. If you are incorporating a Pet Blessing or Protection Spell, now is the time to do so.

"I am a child of deity,
I am part of the creative life force which moves the Universe,
I am part of all that is -
Though we are apart, we are ever together
For we are one in the spirit of our Goddess and our God.
Merry Meet, merry part and merry meet again -
Blessed be!"

(Thank the deities, close ritual and open the circle - remembering to give back to the Earth afterwards).
